This music studio for a classical pianist is located near the inter-coastal waterway, with
excellent views of the marshes and river. The room was completely renovated using a
variety of Products by RPG Diffusor Systems.
The project objective was to reduce the harshness caused by the dense wall and ceiling
elements, and to create a balance of absorption, diffusion, and reflection, in order to
make the sound of the grand pianos more natural. (There are two pianos, a Baldwin and
a Steinway.) The vaulted ceiling was treated with TopAkustik planks; the fireplace wall
was treated with FlutterFree, with cabinets made of Topperfo for bass trapping. The wall
opposite the fireplace wall was treated with standard fixed absorptive treatment; the
other two walls were treated with heavy stage curtains to provide a variable acoustic
element. The soffits were treated with BAD panels and RPG bass absorptive panels.
The final result is a room with a very natural, open sound, and the client is much happier
with the sound of the Steinway in particular.
